Coolum will host the fifth round of the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWoman series on February 12, with some of Australia’s best surf lifesaving competitors battling it out for the ultimate prize in their sport.

Recognised as one of the most gruelling ocean-based competitions in the world, the Ironman and Ironwoman series features a mix of formats that will show the best of each competitor’s endurance and sprint qualities.

See some of Australia’s favourite Ironman and Ironwoman competitors in action, including Shannon Eckstein, Matt Poole, Zane Holmes, Caine Eckstein, Ky Hurst, Courtney Hancock and Elizabeth Pluimers.

Australia Day at Buderim

The famous Buderim Australia Day celebrations supported by the Sunshine Coast Council, put a strong emphasis on activities for the whole family.

From 7 - 9.30 am: Lions Bush Breakfast at Middy's Complex.
From 8 - 9 am: Combined church service at St Mark's, Gubi Gubi Dancers, Flag raising,
launch of Buderim’s 150 years celebrations with the raising of the B150 balloon at the Old Post, Street Concert.
From 9 - 10.30 am: THE GRAND PARADE and then, more entertainment at the Buderim War Memorial Hall.

The tradition is to attend the Bush Breakfast, watch the Float Parade as it moves along the main street, view the judging of the parade floats, then enjoy all the fun and activities of the day on the school oval. Come along and enjoy an action packed, fun filled family day.

Aero Engine Run Day 2012

The Queensland Air Museum presents the Aero Engine Run Day with a special display of aviation horsepower. The museum will be firing up its collection of historic operational aircraft engines and aircraft. The awesome sight and sound of a 1500 horsepower 14 cylinder radial engine powering up an unforgettable experience and one that you wouldn't want to miss.

The museum's operational engines and aircraft cover a range of engine styles dating from the 1940s. Close inspection of the engines in between the runs is encouraged, when you can meet and talk to the restoration volunteers.

Running times will be 11.00am, 12.30pm and 2.00pm. The regular museum display of over 50 aircraft and aviation memorabilia is included in the entry fee. An all day barbecue Sausage Sizzle will be operating with cold drinks, tea and coffee.

2011 Caloundra New Years Eve Fireworks

Caloundra will again host the annual Caloundra Community New Years Eve Celebrations for a night of family fun.

Come along and enjoy the fireworks display on New Years Eve from two advantage points, one being the foreshore of Kings Beach and the rooftop of the Caloundra Transit Centre.

There will be free family fun to bring in the New Year, consisting of performers to entertain the little ones and those "young at heart". Face painters, clowns, roving artists, rides, side show alley and food stalls will be there to tempt those taste buds.

A twilight movie will be screened prior to the brilliant fireworks display again brought to us by Clive Featherby and his crew from KC Fireworks.

Take the Plunge at Aussie World

Aussie World on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland has opened another new attraction and this one is the first of its type on the Sunshine Coast.

The new ride is a log flume ride called The Plunge with not one but two steep climbs and drop-offs. Riders climb aboard hollowed-out logs that are propelled by flowing water through a waterway before climbing upwards then plunging down a ramp at great speed.....twice!

Riders and spectators will be treated to a water splash created by the downhill momentum of The Plunge. An entertaining way to cool off on a hot Queensland day!

Let Noosa Springs Golf Course bring out the best golfer in you by engaging in the Calvin Klein Queensland B & C Grade Championships, November 25-27.

Now in its sixth successful year, the competition was designed by Noosa Springs to give golfers with higher handicaps a Queensland championship to play. The three-day competition will be played over 54 holes of Stableford play.

It’s open to all male amateur golfers with a handicap between 11-36 and all female amateur golfers with a handicap between 18-45. And you don’t have to be a club champion to enter.

The entire field will contest all three rounds –18 holes each day –and the men’s and women’s winners for each B & C category will be the persons with the highest aggregate scores.

The Sunshine Coast Walk for Daniel, on 28th October, marks start of the 2011 Day for Daniel and will see members of the Sunshine Coast community depart Woombye and finish off at Palmwoods approximately 3.5 kilometres.

The event is hosted by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and aims to raise awareness about child safety, promote a safer community for children and honour the memory of abducted Sunshine Coast Teenager Daniel Morcombe.

Now in its seventh year, 'Day for Daniel' continues to grow on a national scale and is recognised as Australia's largest participation event of its type.

Gemfest 2011

Nambour Lapidary Club welcome you to their 5th annual Gemfest on 8th October 2011. It is the largest gemfest on the coast and their sucess keeps growing. This year they have in excess of 160 traders/stallholders on the day. A huge variety of Gemstones, Crystals, Opals, Minerals, Jewellery, Lapidary sales and much more.

A fun day out for all the family with face painting and activities for the children, as well as faceting and silvermaking demonstrations throughout the day. Lapidary is the art of cutting and polishing stones, and attracts all ages.

AFL Masters National Carnival 2011

The Game of AFL Masters Australian Football (AFLM) provides the opportunity for players 30 years and over to enjoy the game of Aussie Rules Football in a safe, supportive and fun environment.

Currently the game is played in every State/Territory of Australia with over 170 local clubs and 5500 registered players competing in local domestic competitions at varying age levels from over 35 to over 55 years.

The season culminates with the National Carnival usually held in the week after the AFL Grand Final and rotated among some of Australia’s most popular resort destinations, where over 800 players and their families enjoy a week of footy and a leisurely holiday.

This year National Carnival for AFL Masters Players 35 to 55 will be held in Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast, this year. The event will involve three days of competition between the nine state including Victorian Metro and Victorian Country. There will also be a mid-week Hall of Fame Dinner and a celebratory Presentation Night on the final night of the carnival.

The 2011 Noosa Jazz Festival will celebrate 19 years bringing the cream of Australian and international Jazz talent to the beautiful resort town of Noosa Heads, the event now recognized as one of Australia’s most enduring Jazz Festivals. Theme this year will be ‘Jazz Party’, with a bevy of Australia’s iconic musicians drawing together in a spontaneous combustion of traditional jazz within the Bicentennial Hall, followed by a stream of swing, modern, funk and blues bellowing along Hastings Street and in the Festival Village.

Festival welcome back Australian artists who are the ‘back bone’ of the Australian jazz scene, Bob Barnard, Allan Browne, Dan Barnett, Geoff Bull and George Golla, just to name a few. Intimacy will be focus for 2011 and recreating those smoky jazz room experiences in one of Australia’s most desirable beach locations.

Coolum Community Celebration

Coolum’s vast array of community groups and volunteer organisations will again be on show at the fourth annual Coolum Community Celebration Day on Sunday, 7 August.

The annual celebration is an opportunity to recognise and acknowledge the work that goes on behind the scenes to keep community running, as well as providing a unique showcase and chance to volunteer, meet new people and enjoy some time with family and friends.

The fun, free family event will be held in Jack Morgan Park from 10am-2pm.

Audience participation is encouraged with the popular Zumba and folk dancing performances or try your hand at the game of Croquet or interactive art, while sending the kids off to get active with Auskick, native tree planting and face painting.

Along with the entertainment, activities and workshops, there will be a Speaker’s Corner with Coolum Wave Writers, Toastmasters and turtle talks by Coolum District Coast Care.

Splendour in the Grass 29 - 31 July 2011

Splendour in the Grass is an annual Australian music festival with over 80 of the biggest and brightest bands playing live.

The 2011 line-up promises to be bigger than ever, with Coldplay, Kanye West, Jane’s Addiction, Pulp and Living End set to entertain up to 30,000 in the rolling hills of Woodford, 40 minutes west of Caloundra.

This mammoth music festival also features a dedicated kids club, day spa and fashion mall.
Right from the birth of Splendour, putting in place environmental programs that reduce the festival's impacts has been a key priority.

The Festival now has a track record in reducing and offsetting carbon emissions, waste and recycling initiatives, and strict bans on certain types of unsustainable packaging.

Queensland Garden Expo 8-10 July

Sunshine Coast Winter Bowls Carnival 2011

Five major carnivals with prize money in excess of AUD120,000, conducted during June, July and August are the prime reasons why over 4,600 participants from all States of Australia and New Zealand make the Sunshine Coast their preferred holiday and bowling destination. The premier event is the 49th Sunshine Coast Winter Bowls Carnival offering prize money in excess of AUD20,000. Eight different events are played at local clubs over 14 days. This is the only carnival that offers a Open Mixed Singles event, offering AUD2,800 in prizes.

The Sunshine Coast Winter Bowls Carnival, conducted by seven clubs and the district association, gets underway on Saturday 28 May 2011 at Buderim Bowls Club. The competition continues at Maroochy Swan Bowls Club from Sunday 12 June 2011 and concludes on Sunday 3 July 2011. Then to Mooloolaba Bowls Club from Saturday 11 June 2011 until Sunday 26 June 2011. The District competition runs from Tuesday, 5 July 2011 until Sunday, 17 July 2011. The competition then moves to Caloundra City Bowls Club commencing on Monday, 18 July 2011 and concluding Saturday, 30 July 2011. Final games will be played at Kawana Bowls Club from Sunday, 31 July 2011 until Thursday, 4 August 2011.

The awards, on 17th June 2011, will recognise and celebrate the sustainability achievements of Sunshine Coast residents, businesses and community groups in building design, construction, edible landscaping, transport, resource management and the new category, greening the arts.

This year's awards will include a Hall of Fame Award for the first time to recognise outstanding ongoing contributions or innovations in sustainability as well as award categories including the Golden Glossy -- Excellence in Sustainable Design Award, Resource Saver Award, Edible Landscape Award, Sustainable Transport Award, Living Smart Solutions Award, Enviro-Business Award and Greening the Arts Award.

The awards have always been well represented and attended by businesses and residents alike and organisers anticipate that having secured Dr Karl Kruszelnicki of radio and TV fame as keynote speaker will see this year's event as the biggest yet. Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast next month hosts the first event on the winter sailing calendar as part of the Season of Sailing. The sparkling blue waters of Mooloolaba Bay will be the setting for spectacular racing action from June 4 to 12, kicking off with Queensland’s newest regatta, Sail Mooloolaba.

Sail Mooloolaba is an sailing annual event that brings together junior, youth and senior sailors from the east coast of Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand, across large and small dinghies, and monohull and multihull keel boats, to race in a two-day regatta on the beautiful waters off Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast.

The Sunshine Coast offers a wide range of activities for family members. There is Mooloolaba Wharf and Underwater World, Australia Zoo, a dive on the ex HMAS Brisbane, or an eco-cruise on the Maroochy and Noosa Rivers. Mooloolaba beach offers a stunning location to swim, relax and entertain.

Floating Land 2011

Presented as a ten-day event, Floating Land brings people from across the Asia Pacific including visual and performance artists, cultural practitioners, writers, and educators together with the communities of the Sunshine Coast.

Floating Land is an ongoing conversation about creativity, the environment and culture. The 2011 theme, Water Culture, continues these conversations and acknowledges that those of the Asia Pacific region are facing the adverse consequences of climate change due to their dependence upon, and close relationship with, the oceans, rivers and waterways.

The venue this year is Boreen Point, Lake Cootharaba in the UNESCO -listed biosphere of Noosa, with satellite locations at Coolum and Bli Bli on the Sunshine Coast.

Lake Cootharaba is the largest lake in the Noosa River system and on a sunny day the lake is filled with boats and boating enthusiasts. The lake is the gateway to the upper Noosa River, the Noosa Everglades and the Great Sandy National Park. The shore of Boreen Point is steeped in history – Eliza Fraser, shipwrecked with her husband master mariner James Fraser, for whom the island is named, was rescued by a convict at Boreen Point in 1836. The village retains strong connections with its early days and many of the old cottages, as well as the original Le Bateau Ivre Guest House, remain standing. The Apollonian Hotel is an important historic landmark and gathering place. The character of Boreen Point has been enhanced over time with ‘Queenslanders’ relocated from surrounding areas and, more recently, designs and lightweight construction responding to the climate and setting have added to the appeal of the village.

Mooloolaba has long had a link with New Zealand's South Island with hundreds of South Islanders, largely from Christchurch, regularly enjoying our area as a place to literally "swap climates" and enjoy great weather in what is normally their Winter.

Many of these Kiwi guests have been holidaying on the Sunshine Coast for many years and the recent earthquakes in Christchurch have obviously made this impossible. The thought of losing not only their homes as well as in many cases their jobs and workplaces is no doubt very daunting for all the families involved.

Sunshine Coast Bike Week

Sunshine Coast Council is once again coordinating a series of events for Sunshine Coast Bike Week, scheduled to take place from March 12 – 20. Noosa Festival of Surfing 2011

Now in its 20th year, the Noosa Festival of Surfing has grown to become the biggest surf festivals in the world attracting more than 600 competitors in 11 age divisions. There is something for everyone with single and tandem malibu boardriding, standup paddleboards and noserider trials.

The official opening ceremony and paddle-out will take place, following a 5km standup paddle race on Laguna Bay on 12th March.

When you need to take a break from the surfing action, make your way to the Festival Village in Noosa Lions Park . The Expo has free admission with the exhibition pavilion featuring some of the world’s most famous surfboards, on loan from private collectors. There is a range of entertainment throughout the week including themed movie nights, surfing memorabilia auctions and music concerts.

Spectators are free to watch the board riding action at First Point, Noosa.

'Chill with Triple J' Australia Day Event

Australia Day festivities are being held at Charles Clark Park, Mooloolaba on January 26th. The event will provide and 'Alcohol and Drug Free' fun space for young people.

'Chill with Triple J' is being held between 10am-2pm. Triple J's Hottest 100 countdown will be pumping in the Chill Tent. Interactive entertainment will be happening throughout the afternoon. Games and competitions will also be held throughout the day including thong throwing and eating contests. Food stalls will be situated withing the arena to grab a delicious bite while relaxing along the wharf.

Cost is FREE, however gold coin donations will be accepted for the Premiers Flood Appeal.

Celebrate the sultry sights and sounds of the tropics at the annual Ginger Flower Festival - Australia Day long-weekend from Thursday January 20th to Sunday January 23rd - 2011 at the Ginger Factory at Yandina.

The highlight of the festival is the speakers program which runs in three venues from 20am to 3.30pm. Also available to keep you busy are gorgeous floral art displays, live entertainment and almoust 12,000 ginger plants. Guest speakers are available after each presentation to give expert advise or even just to have a chat.

25th Woodford Folk Festival

Woodford Folk Festival is one of Australia’s largest and most iconic events and this year is the festival’s 25th Anniversary. The programme encompasses the depth and diversity of Australia’s cultural, artistic and social expression with music, dance, cabaret, circus, comedy, workshops, debate, street theatre, films, forums, visual arts, an entire children's festival and many special presentations including a spectacular fire event on New Years Day.

Despite its large size, the festival has retained its grassroots, non-commercial feel. It is popular with all ages, and the festival atmosphere is the most highly rated aspect of the event in visitor surveys. 2010 Carols on Kings

Commencing at 6.30pm on 19th December, Carols will focus on fun and entertainment for all ages. Especially for kiddies, the Silly Billies will present Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is coming to Town.
